Suffering from osteoarthritis – what to do in times of Corona?
Despite the current good progress in the development of a vaccine, the Corona pandemics and its resulting restrictions will affect all our lives in the next months. But while the public life can be put on hold, degenerative diseases and the accompanying symptoms do not pause. On the contrary, the current situation intensifies the problems for many patients.
Cold weather and a lack of movement aggravate symptoms of osteoarthritis
Many patients with osteoarthritis suffer from a subjective increase of disease-related complaints in the cold season of the year. The pain grows and shows more frequently. The joints feel even more immobile in cold and damp weather. But too much rest often has the opposite effect to the intended relief because the joint cartilage depends on movement and stress for an adequate supply with nutrients and the production of the synovial fluid. A lack of movement, because the couch and the warmth in the house are more enticing than the dismal weather outside, encourage an aggravation of the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
Complaints know no lockdown
This year, the cancellation of sports courses and restrictions in leisure time activities make the situation even more difficult. Moreover, the hurdle to getting the necessary medical help feels higher. Since large numbers of people with osteoarthritis belong to the risk group for Covid-19, many avoid hospitalisation or consultations with a doctor for fear of infection. In many places, planned elective surgeries, which include arthroscopic and endoprosthetic operations, are also cancelled in order to ensure in-patient care in case of emergencies.
No false restraint with seeking medical help
Instead of trying to cope on their own, patients should not hesitate to get medical treatment if they need it. Modern orthopaedics offers a wide range of non-surgical treatment options for osteoarthritis. With the always high and now even stricter standards of hygiene in medical practices, the risk for catching Covid-19 is very low. If possible, the specialist practices try not to have patients with any acute symptoms of infects enter the premises.
An effective treatment can help patients with osteoarthritis to get through this pandemic winter. When the pain is less, the urgently needed movement also becomes easier. Also during this time, doctors and medical specialists remain the best and safe contact person for all health-related complaints.
Member of the Bundestag Hans-Juergen Irmer visits MedTec in Wetzlar
After his fellow party member Frank Steinraths visited MedTec Medizintechnik GmbH in July, Hans-Juergen Irmer, MdB, took the time this week to get to know the Wetzlar-based medical technology company. In conversation with Managing Director Axel Muntermann, not only the company's more than 20-year history and the development of the patented MBST technology were a topic, but also the principle of action and the fields of application. As publisher of the quarterly "Health Compass Mittelhessen", medical topics are of great interest to Mr. Irmer. Thus, future possibilities of usage which could result from the active principle at the cell level were also discussed.
A tour of the in-house showroom with the exhibition of MBST therapy device concluded the visit.

Dr. Stolzenbach has used the MBST magnetic resonance system for more than 20 years with great success. In this time, he has not only given a large number of lectures about MBST magnetic resonance therapy but also been a competent advisor in medical questions for MedTec.
Dr. Stolzenbach uses several innovative treatment options in his private practice for orthopaedics that aim at supporting the body’s own healing processes and stimulate a real healing of the damaged tissue. One of them is the MBST therapy system.
“My specialist training largely centered around surgical treatment methods, as is the case for all orthopaedists. In my own practice, I focused increasingly on avoiding surgery whenever possible. Treatment methods that support or stimulate endogenous weakened powers of self-healing aim at treating the cause of the pain. Their effect doesn’t come as fast as that of pain killers or cortisone because these healing processes take time but they work sustainably. The damaged tissue, for example a tendon or the cartilage in the joint, can recover, regenerate, rejuvenate. And these regenerating treatments also have very few side effects”, says Dr. Stolzenbach.

MBST supports Trier soccer player Branscheid
Team doctor Dr. med. Peter Krapf uses most modern treatments for the players of Eintracht Trier to keep downtimes as short as possible. Among others, this is the MBST magnetic resonance therapy that was for instance used in the treatment of goalgetter Jan Branscheid. The aim was to shorten the striker’s injury-related pause after suffering a rupture of a bundle of muscles during training.
The treatment is done in the practice of Dr. med. Peter Krapf in Trier who has long experience in the application of therapeutic magnetic resonance for professional athletes. "The therapy often has fast and sustainable results while also being gentle on the patient and free of side-effects. That is a unique advantage", SVE team doctor sums up that modern therapy option.
Therapeutic approach: biophysical cell stimulation
With its therapeutic approach of biophysical cell stimulation, MBST is not only used in the treatment of degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis and osteoporosis but also increasingly in professional sports – also preventive and postsurgical. The aim of the metabolic stimulation is then the acceleration of the healing process in order to reduce the necessary downtime. Scientific data suggests that MBST magnetic resonance technology stimulates various biophysical processes and triggers anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.
